Citizen Solutions: Planning and Zoning Recommendations for Plum Creek's Moosehead Region Land

This map is the Moosehead Region Futures Committee's work to create a visible expression of the planning guidelines found in "Citizen Solutions." It is not intended to be a complete planning tool as information on wildlife habitat and existing trail and recreational features are not complete at this time.  In-holdings and subdivisions exist throughout the entire region in all zones.

Each red circle on our map represents a specific suite of high value nature tourism experiences. These suites are areas of exceptional outdoor experiences that are necessary to sustain and grow the region’s nature based economy. These areas contain much of our “green infrastructure” and create the unique “Moosehead Brand” of North Woods experiences that will attract travelers and enrich residents’ lives. Inappropriate development in these areas could degrade essential experiences, reduce the wild-feeling appeal of outdoor recreation, and threaten the region’s nature based economy.

Your comments, please! Clicking on a particular suite will provide information on current and potential nature tourism experiences in that suite and will allow you to share your ideas on development needs, areas that are appropriate for conservation, wildlife habitat and high value recreation experiences. Your input will contribute to our ongoing communication with the Land Use Regulation Commission, the state agency that rules on development applications in Maine’s North Woods.
