Suites of High Value Nature Tourism Experiences:  The Futures Committee has circled areas of exceptional outdoor experiences that are necessary to sustain and grow the region’s nature based economy. These areas contain much of our “green infrastructure” and create the unique “Moosehead Brand” of North Woods experiences that will attract travelers and enrich residents’ lives. Inappropriate development in these areas could degrade essential experiences, reduce the wild-feeling appeal of outdoor recreation, and threaten the region’s nature based economy.

Suite I: Moose (Squaw) Mt. Resort Area

Squaw Mt. Ski Area (lodge and hotel), snowmobile and ATV trails, public boat launch at Mt. View Pond, fishing, swimming (sand beach), wind protected canoeing & kayaking, wildlife habitat/watching, hiking trails. Seasonal Outward Bound basecamp. Exceptional lake and mountain views (Kineo, Borestone, Elephant Mountains, Mt. Katahdin range). Adjoins public lands hiking trails and Moose Ponds Unit (remote pond fishing, hiking, camping). Revitalized ski resort with all lifts and trails open. Nordic ski center with groomed and backcountry ski and snowshoe trails, guided Snowcat skiing, golf course, full service resort.
