Suites of High Value Nature Tourism Experiences: The Futures Committee has circled areas of exceptional outdoor experiences that are necessary to sustain and grow the region’s nature based economy. These areas contain much of our “green infrastructure” and create the unique “Moosehead Brand” of North Woods experiences that will attract travelers and enrich residents’ lives. Inappropriate development in these areas could degrade essential experiences, reduce the wild-feeling appeal of outdoor recreation, and threaten the region’s nature based economy.
Public boat launch, stocked fishing, popular family fishing/picnicking close to Greenville. Wind protected canoeing & kayaking. Unique bog is education site for nature field trips and wildlife watching. Winter shelter for deer. Boardwalk nature trail from public landing to bog. Wildlife watching blinds and interpretive sites. Water accessible picnic areas on traditionally used points of land; increased public ownership of north shores. Burnt Jacket Mountain: short, popular hiking trails to exposed summit and exceptional views of Moose Mt. range and sunsets. Hunting, wildlife watching. Bike/hike, ski trail connecting Burnt Jacket trails to Greenville/Lily Bay/Elephant trails (bike/hike/ski). Mountain access, parking, summit and trails in public or land trust ownership.
